Documentation Now Required to Verify Eligibility of Covered Dependents
Posted April 13, 2011
In an effort to control costs, the Employee Insurance Program (EIP) is auditing subscribers who cover dependents to ensure that only eligible dependents have coverage through EIP.
The audit process will take 18 to 24 months, during which time subscribers will receive a letter asking for documentation to verify the eligibility of each covered dependent. Subscribers will have 60 days to provide documentation. If documentation is not provided within that time frame, the dependent will be dropped from coverage.
Beginning May 2, 2011, EIP will require documentation at the time of enrollment for dependents of new hires and for dependents added during open enrollment or due to a special eligibility situation.
