Change of Address Reporting Requirements for Non-U.S. Citizens
Regardless of your U.S. Immigration status, if you are not a U.S.
citizen, you must report a change of address to the U.S. Immigration
Service within 10 days of moving to a new location. This applies
to U.S. Permanent Resident Aliens and to all individuals in a non-immigrant
status such as students, scholars and dependents in B, F, H, J,
M, TN, O, W/B and other Visa Classifications.
Under the current Department of Homeland Security policy, failure to report your residence address
or any change of address to the U.S. Immigration Service within
10 days of moving to a new location is punishable by fines or imprisonment
and/or deportation.
To report a change of address:
- When you move to a new home, you must submit a change of address form (Form AR-11) even after you are a US permanent resident. This requirement can be completed online at https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=coa. Please call our office at 803.777.0288 if you have any questions about completing the form online.
- Once you submit the form online, download the PDF confirmation form and email it to International Support for Faculty and Staff while retaining a copy of it with your other immigration records as your proof of compliance.
- If you choose to mail the paper form instead of completing the online form, use the following procedures:
- Go to http://www.uscis.gov/ar-11
- Download Form AR-11 (PDF format)
- Print, complete and sign Form AR-11
- Mail the form by certified mail with a return receipt (this is your only proof of compliance)
- Keep a copy of the form with your other immigration records
- Send a copy to International Support for Faculty and Staff.
NOTE: Since 9/11, failure to file Form AR-11 has become the basis for removal in certain cases.
