Environmental Health and Safety
(EHS) offers a wide variety of classes to meet employee training needs. If you
need training, check with your safety manager or coordinate training directly
with Environmental Health and Safety at 803-777-5269. Training is delivered through
instructor-led presentations, online text-based
instruction, and video.

Safety Orientation
will educate all new faculty, staff, and student workers about
principles of safety at work. This session will provide general information
about USC's safety program and more specific information concerning safety
precautions.
Back Safety is designed to teach correct lifting techniques to prevent injuries to the back when lifting equipment or materials. USC employees who lift heavy objects as part of their job should attend.Confined Space: Survival by Permit will familiarize employees with the use of USC permits and the procedures that must be followed during a confined space entry. All employees who work in confined spaces must attend this workshop. Required by OSHA.Ergonomics deals with designing the workplace to fit the worker to create an effective and safe working environment. Participants in this course will learn correct sitting and lifting positions to avoid possible injuries while working at their computers or in their work areas.Fall Protection will outline procedures supervisors must enforce to provide a system that will prevent employees from falling at work. This workshop will acquaint supervisors with the revised fall protection standards. Required by OSHA.Hazard Communication is designed to teach employees about hazardous chemicals and how to work with them properly. USC employees whose jobs require working with or around chemicals must attend this class.Heat Stress is designed to help participants prevent heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and heat cramps while working in hot weather.Introduction to Hazardous Waste Management is designed to help employees identify, segregate, collect, label, and store hazardous waste at their worksites. Policies and procedures followed by the hazardous waste management team will be explained in detail.Laboratory Safety for Custodial and Maintenance Workers is designed to educate employees on how to recognize and avoid hazards in the laboratory. All USC custodial and maintenance staff who perform tasks in laboratories should attend.Ladder Safety is designed to train employees on the proper use of portable and fixed ladders. Participants will learn how to avoid potential hazards associated with the use of ladders at work.Lockout/Tagout is designed to ensure that employees working on equipment are not electrocuted, hit, crushed, or otherwise hurt during routine machinery service or repair. USC employees who perform maintenance or service on machinery or equipment must attend this workshop. Required by OSHA.Personal Protection Equipment introduces employees to the different types of personal protection equipment, and teaches proper donning and maintenance techniques for the equipment. Required by OSHA.Radiation Safety is required for the users of radioactive materials in the laboratory and for operators of X-ray and/or laser equipment. Note: This class is offered by the Radiation Safety Office staff as needed. Arrangements to attend the class are made through the appropriate laboratories.Instructors Video-Based Training |
