Successful Student Supervision:
The Art of Managing Students

Come learn the art of managing students in a workshop designed for first-time supervisors of student workers. This workshop will cover all aspects of student supervision in a university setting—from recruitment to termination of employment. Attend “Successful Student Supervision” and learn:

  • how to find and select the best candidates
  • methods for setting expectations and assessing student performance
  • how to give constructive feedback and offer guidance to new workers
  • how to enhance your communication skills
  • methods for promoting and developing students' life skills
  • techniques that will help motivate and retain student employees.

Who Should Attend
Any USC employee new to the role of supervising student workers or has no previous supervisory skills training.

Date and Time
February 19, 2009, 8:45 a.m.-noon

Participants should arrive to sign-in at 8:45 a.m. Instruction will begin at 9:00 a.m.

There is no charge for this workshop.

Location and Parking
1600 Hampton Street, Suite 101.

Campus parking is available with any faculty/staff decal in the lower lot behind the 1600 Hampton Street Annex. The entrance to the parking lot is between the 1600 Hampton Street tower and the WACH-57 building on Pickens Street.
